Black History Month Celebration

Every year, the Afro-American Police Officers League (AAPOL) host our Black History Month celebration for our members, community stakeholders, youth organizations, and honored guests.

The AAPOL Black History Month celebration is a community event to honor the sacrifices of our heroes during our fight for equality.

This year, AAPOL will partner with the Houston Police Department (HPD) and Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. The purpose of this collaboration is to remind our HPD family and the citizens of Houston the importance of the phrase “knowledge is power.” Reminding everyone of the accomplishments of the civil rights movement and educating our youth of their culture are opportunities that shouldn’t be missed. The celebration of the contributions, achievements, and resilience of those who sacrificed, will create cultural awareness, and generate community unity.

The Black History Month Event will include activities for the families and kids. A food vendor will give away free prepared meals to the attendees of the program. We will include several educational components that will educate the attendees about public safety, significant events during the civil rights movement and lastly the event will offer a special performance highlighting the Arts from award winning youth dance groups.

This partnership will increase the impact of the event and create a more meaningful experience for the attendees.
