AAPOL Awards $11,000 in Scholarships to Local High School Students

The A:lio-Ame1ican Police Officer’s League (AAPOL) raised $11,000 and decided to make good use of it. AAPOL handed out over a dozen scholarships to local high school students to assist “v\rith tuition. In addition, the Fox 26 News, Isiah Factor was also in attendance to interview President Carr and scholarship recipients. As quoted by President Carr, “As you know there’s a lot of negative energy regarding law enforcement. From what we see in the news or fro,n our personal experiences, But we (AAPOL) wanted to be a light in this tirne. So investing in our youth, giving out scholarship, is something we know is important.” 2018-2019 1.tt Annual AAPOL Scholarship Fundraiser & Gala The Afio-American Police Officers League is hosting its 1st Annual Awards and Scholarship Fundraising Gala at the Buffalo Soldiers Ivluseum of Houston located at 3816 Caroline St. on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 7P.Ivl. .

Officers vvill be recognized in areas such as; Exceptional Achievement in Extraordinar)’ Valor, Crime Prevention , Investigations, Community Outreach, Lifesaving, an Innovative Approaches to Police Service. Awards vvill be given for: Officer of the Year, Outstanding Patrol of the Year, Outstanding Inv es ti gator of the Year, Outstanding Super\risor of the Year and Humanitarian Avvard. All officers and adult family members are invited to attend. Ticket cost is $50.00 and AAPOL member tickets purchased prior to October 1, 2018 are $40.00. Door prizes, access to the museum exhibits, rafiles and fun entertainment Mil fill the evening..

Empowering our Youth!!!

Engaging Law Enforcement and Enhancing Communities. TAPS Academy students are given the tools to become better citizens in their communities.  AAPOL members including President Carr and Det. Wilkerson-Wyche spoke to students at Bruce Elementary School. AAPOL had excellent bonding opportunity with these brilliant students. AAPOL appreciate their dedicated and commitment to the organization. AAPOL Move Back to 5330 Griggs Palms Center

On July 17, 2018, the Afro-American Police Officers’ League official moved the headquarters back to 5330 Griggs Rd. The July General Meeting attendance was successful and AAPOL is looking forward to being active in the community!!! Unity, Pride, Commitment

Officer Ryan L. Johnson

Police Officer Ryan L. Johnson passed away on May 20, 2018 at the age of 42. He is survived by his wife, Jamie Johnson Officer Johnson was a Veteran of the U. S. Army. He joined the Houston Police Department on December 10, 2007, Academy Class #196. During his career ,with the department, he was assigned to the Northeast Division, Burglary & Theft Division and North Division. Officer Ryan Johnson was a faithful member and Board of Director (Sgt at Arms) of the African American Police Officers’ League­ AAPOL and he will be greatly missed.
