On Wednesday, April 18, 2018 Council Member Dwight Boykins personally invited AAPOL and the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Houston to be special guest at the monthly City Hall Meeting.  The two organizations were recognized on the floor by Mr. Boykins for the positive impact on the community, especially in the district he service, District D.

Council Member Dwight Boykins (District D) is a member of the City of Houston Council.  Mr. Boykins currently serves as Chair of the Ethics, Elections & Council Governance Committee and is a member of the following committees:  Budget and Fiscal Affairs; BFA subcommittee on Debt Financing and Pensions; Regulation and Neighborhood Affairs Affairs; and Housing and Community Development. Council Member Boykins actively serves as an advocate for District D.

In his time on council, Council Member Boykins has forged new partnerships with the Texas Medical Center; University of Houston; Texas Southern University;

Houston Community College; and San Jacinto College.

Dwight is a native resident of District D and attended local public schools.  He received his BBA in Marketing from the Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern University.

Dwight has previously served on the Oversight Committee of Rebuild Houston and remains a huge advocate for the improvement of the city’s street infrastructure to address drainage and flooding in District D and across the city. He is a Senior Fellow American Leadership Forum (ALF) Class XXXV, and is currently a member of the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a Life Member of the NAACP and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

National Pan-Hellenic Council of Houston

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. of Houston (NPHCH) chapter was chartered in 1958 in Houston, Texas.  Since the chartering of this chapter, thirty-one Greek

chapters in the Houston, Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery and Brazoria counties have joined together to form a council of unity and respect.

Since June 2017, the NPHC of Houston has completed 10 service projects.  We have raised $1,593 for Paul Quinn College “We Over Me Community Farm”, $900 for March of Dimes and $2,750 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Total money raised to date is $4,243.

The NPHCH’s signature service project is, “Breakfast with Santa”. This project is a collaborative event where all nine Black Greek Letter Organizations, Blue Triangle YMCA, Acres Homes Multi Service Center, 5th Ward Multi Service Center, Sweet Homes Missionary Baptist Church and SYSCO Foods feed area children and give them toys for Christmas that they may not receive on Christmas day.

The Houston Police Officer’s Union hosted the Stars and Stripes Charity Golf Tournament on April 19, 2018.  This awesome golf tournament proceeds are given to Assist the Officer-AOT and Operation Lone Star, both of which are police and veteran related support charities.  The AAPOL Team was represented by Johnnie McFarland, Keith Huff Sr. and Jerry  Chenier.  AAPOL appreciate their dedicated and commitment to the organization.  Thanks for representing us well!!!

AAPOL STRONG

Lieutenant Joslyn M.  Johnson assigned to Northeast Division retired from the Houston Police Department on Friday, March 23, 2018, after nearly 24 years of dedicated service.  She joined the department on June 20, 1994, as a member of Cadet Class 159.  She was honored with a memorable reception on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the HPOU Building.  All her friends and family was there to celebrate with her as she embarks on a new chapter of her life.  Lt. Johnson was a faithful member of the African American Police Officers’ League-AAPOL and she will be greatly missed.

On Sunday, April 22, 2018, AAPOL Board of Director, Officer DeAndre Hutchison was the guest minister conducting Worship Service at Sunlight Baptist Church.   AAPOL was in attendance to support Rev. Hutchison bring God’s WORD forward.

AAPOL will be MOVING the headquarters office to The Palms Center 5300 Griggs Rd. Houston, Texas 77021 September 2018!!!!  However, AAPOL General Meeting will be held at the Griggs location starting

July 2018.

WHAT DOES EARLY VOTING BY PERSONAL APPEARANCE MEAN?

Early Voting By Personal Appearance means that a registered voter in Texas may vote prior to General Election Day during a period designated by state law.

WHEN DOES EARLY VOTING BY PERSONAL APPEARANCE TAKE PLACE?

Texas Election Code: Sec. 85.001. EARLY VOTING PERIOD.
a. General Election: During a General Election the period for early voting by personal appearance begins on the 17th day before Election Day and continues through the fourth day before Election Day, except as otherwise provided.
b. Runoff Election: The Early Voting Period for a special runoff election for the office of state senator or state representative or for a runoff primary election begins on the 10th day before Election Day. 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO VOTE EARLY BY PERSONAL APPEARANCE?
Any qualified voter may vote early by personal appearance. No reason is needed.

WHERE CAN A REGISTERED VOTER IN HARRIS COUNTY VOTE DURING THE EARLY VOTING PERIOD?
Any qualified voter may vote in person at the main early voting polling place or at any other designated early voting branch location during designated times. Usually, there are numerous early voting locations in Harris County during the conduct of a countywide election.

I would like to thank the AAPOL members for the support and dedication to the organization.  The February General Meeting was successful with attendance and participation of all events.   I’m requesting that we as an organization continue to reach out to others in getting more officers to become members.

In the near future, the AAPOL Board will discuss relocating our headquarters back to Griggs Rd. with the intent to make it more convenient for members to attend meetings and be more present in the community.

Again, I would like to thank the members for the support, Chief Acevedo for backing AAPOL’s initiatives and Executive Chief Finner for his guidance.  Let’s continue to make the African American Police Officers’ League great!
